Wii shortage this Christmas

There were reports flying around the net that Nintendo may have exaggerated the current problem with Wii demand and in fact they have plenty of stock rolling out over the Christmas period, but it only takes a quick look over on Ebay to see that people are paying over the odds because they just can't get hold of one in the shops.

Indeed, Nintendo vehemently denies that they have exaggerated the problem.

"We strongly reject and resent the accusation that we are 'PR-ing' stock shortages. We are doing all we can to ensure that the unprecedented demand for Wii can be met as far as possible in the run up to Christmas. This is being done through regular and multiple deliveries of Wii stock to the UK, globally we are working at maximum capacity, producing 1.8 million units of Wii hardware a month to try and meet this demand as far as possible.", a spokesperson told Max Console.

CVG claims that Nintendo are currently pumping out 1.8 million Wii a month, which is keeping retailers happy, but is still not enough to meet demand.

At the back end of last week, Amazon apparently had 1,400 Wii delivered, but within 10 minutes were sold out, whereas HMV's Oxford Street store claimed that they sold out of their stock in just over 30 minutes.

Let us know in the HEXUS.gaming forum if you see any high street stores getting a delivery of Wii.

Note: If you pay £300 for a Wii, you've really been swindled, it isn't worth that much. Not even to play Super Mario Galaxy.

I managed to grab one randomly from my local Game (in Wimbledon) so stock does appear, just not very frequently!
I managed to get one at the end of October from work of all places :)

Game and various other places had no stock at the time so it was lucky to be able to just pick it up and go home and play bowling to the wii small hours….
Amazon Germany has plenty of stock for anyone who is desperate to get one. Just go through the order process with a UK Amazon window open.
My sister bought one at the end of last week for £299 off Ebay. Waste of money. She only bought it specifically for Super Mario Galaxy.
Someone at work has just walked into Gamestation in Milton Keynes and got them selves one. Good result for them :)
