Stability issues improved

Though Sony have never confirmed that the Playstation 3 firmware update 2.01 would add DivX and Xvid support it was widely believed that it would be made available in this latest version.

DivX CEO, Kevin Hall hinted that the support was just around the corner and revealed earlier this month that developers could now take advantage of the decoder technology after updating their SDK to version 2.0.

It looks like consumers are going to have to wait a little bit longer because PS3 System Software Update 2.01 has now been released and there's no sign of any added support:

The following improvements are as follows:

* [Remote Start] feature is changed to avoid unintended power on.
* Stability of System Software including Internet Browser and Information Board has been improved.
* Stability during playing some PLAYSTATION 3 format software has been improved.
* Stability of the upscaler for PlayStation 2 format software has been improved. (Playability of PlayStation 2 depends on model)

A release date for the added support is expected soon.

so why did they say it will have it then?

It is only a small update , but there are problems with some peeps assassins creed freezing, it's happened to my friends version twice and it's also the first time the console has frozen, so not sure if it was to do with the last update that they are fixing, plus i think it might sort out some of the lag problems in pro evo 2008, for me its a very minor update, as for the divx support well i really dont need that anyways but i'll guess it will turn up a some point.
