If you're thinking about buying your PC titles from Amazon.co.uk, you might be slightly worried if you're running Windows Vista. Though a fair amount of promotion is visible on the Amazon website for Microsoft's Games for Windows initiative, there is little to no mention of Windows Vista.

Furthermore, each individual PC game title is listed as suitable for the Windows XP platform. Even todays hottest titles; Crysis, Gears of War and Call of Duty 4, all of which Microsoft would be hoping will help push the Windows Vista platform are listed as available for Windows XP.

Don't worry however, we can assure you that these games do indeed work on Windows Vista and though Microsoft state that "Windows Vista offers a dramatically improved gaming experience", Amazon clearly don't agree.

Some games are listed as xp/vista, but I'd guess this is just a mistake - last week they were all saying vista only.
well, they are right….

That's a matter of opinion frankly, and one I don't agree with. Everything I've thrown at Vista just worked, with the exception of Sony Vegas 7 (itself tripping over because of a 3rd party product… ironically enough a Microsoft one :D).

It's in Amazon's best interests to promote games for Vista. There's probably no real rush, but people will be buying PCs with Vista on them. Whether that's intentional or not we don't know, but the vast majority of consumer PCs now come with Vista as standard. If Amazon were to simply pretend Vista didn't exist, they would lose sales from the ignorant.

Typically by people who don't believe they need to update their hardware mor than every 5 years, and who refuse to download proper drivers and patches. By now, most of the driver problems for most people running modern hardware have been worked out. And for the remainign problems…every new OS has incompatibilities. It happens; archaic hardware can't be supported forever, and other hardware is sometimes *too new* to be supported efficiently if it comes out aroun the time of a new OS release. For those of you who don't remember, XP had the same problems upon its release. I never got Rogue Spear to run right on my P3-M laptop with the GeForce2 GO vid card (which was pretty new at the time), although it ran fine on my old PII. It was due to Xp and drivers for my grpahics card not working well together. I tried it again about 18 months after getting my laptop and it worked fine. For many months, I had numerous BSODs or sudden reboots due to Xp and this card too. But these (for the most part) were worked out over time.
