The clock is ticking...

I'm so glad I'm not a kid, this would be my worst nightmare! Watch out kiddies, Microsoft has today revealed a new parental control feature called the Xbox 360 Family Timer. Sounds quite nice doesn't it? It's not, it's an evil new feature that will allow your parent to monitor how long you've been playing on the Xbox.

They'll even be able to set the timer to make the Xbox turn-off after a certain period! Ahhhhh, no more waiting till your parents go to bed and then getting up for a late night session on Viva Pinata!

“As a leader in interactive entertainment, it’s Microsoft’s responsibility to provide parents with tools they can use to manage their children’s video gaming and online experiences, and we have made that a priority from the very start,” said Robbie Bach, president of the Entertainment and Devices Division at Microsoft.

Microsoft has stated that the Family Timer will be available for download via Xbox LIVE in early December.

Get your gaming in now kids, your fun is about to be ruined forever!

Surely you can just turn it back on once its turned itself off?
i wonder whether it counts “play” time, or “system uptime”
I'm sure that with the number of parents that buy little Jimmy GTA because he asks for it, this will make almost no difference.
That and a huge number of parents
a) Won't even know about it
b) Know how to use the 360 to enable it

I don't think it's as simple as that. They can set it daily and weekly or something like that.

Mind you, kids know more about technology then their parents do.

I can see a story coming up soon after launch. “8 year old hacks Xbox 360 Parental Timer”.
This new feature has been completely misunderstood. It won't be used by parents to control their kids, it'll be used by wives and girlfriends to control the men!

Be warned chaps, don't let the missus read this news. :)
